Bruce LaBruce is unlike most horror filmmakers. In his 20 year career, the artist – who recently had a film retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art – has featured zombie porn, necrophilia and gerontophilia (inter-generational love affairs) in his features. Since starting out in the 1980s in Toronto making no-budget Super 8 shorts, he has produced feature films in Berlin (like the unforgettable Raspberry Reich) and most recently, his first million dollar production in Montreal.
On Halloween, LaBruce comes to Berlin for a party at LARRY Club Berlin, where he will DJ alongside Hamburg jeweler Jonathan Johnson for the L.A. Zombie Halloween Party. With a “Zombie Marilyn” performance by Tulipa, LaBruce is mounting a “blood selfies” photo shoot in the back room of LARRY from 9 p.m., where guests are invited to get messy with fake blood, props and a selfie stick. The party is themed around L.A. Zombie, a 2010 film by LaBruce, where an alien sea zombie takes over Los Angeles, so zombie sexiness, fun and revolutionary slogans will be present, for sure. The undead in costumes seem to be more than welcome here, so get your face paint ready.
The L.A. ZOMBIE HALLOWEEN PARTY WITH BRUCE LABRUCE shakes down on October 31 at LARRY Club Berlin, 131 Chausseestrasse, Berlin, from 9 p.m. until late. Free.
