It’s not difficult to get inspired by Berlin based label Retreat. They’re outspoken about their supreme goal – fighting for the cause of releasing good music on a vinyl-only label. Given the vinyl revival that’s been going on for the past years, it’s no surprise more and more labels come to life with such an ethos. Retreat, however, is one of the oldest associated with the wax medium’s return to fame.
Founded by Yanneck Salvo (aka Quarion) and Hauke Freer (one half of Session Victim), Retreat has been releasing quality dancefloor music since 2009. Its roots span from the more classic side of jazz to drum n’bass, carrying a modern house esthetic with a love for techno, as a forward-thinking music genre. Evoking the rare feeling of receiving a paper postcard from an old friend, similar to getting free espressos after a fine italian meal or an extra surprise record in a package from your favourite discogs dealer, Retreat‘s aim is to be an unexpected surprise that puts a smile on your face…and moves your behind at the same time.
Artists on Retreat include founders Quarion and Session Victim, as well as soulful tech-house advocate Iron Curtis, Matthias Reiling, Johannes Albert, Kim Brown and a name you’ve been hearing even more of recently, Hunee.
It’s no surprise that Retreat releases have been charted by Homework, Jimpster, Steve Bug, Detroit Swindle, Max Graef, The Revenge, Daniel Bortz, Christopher Rau, Deetron and many others. Their latest offering comes in the shape of Quarion’s new EP, Busted Moniker.
After a long period of hibernation, Retreat show off their label’s best works this Friday at Prince Charles. To get involved and win one of 2×2 guestlist spots, simply comment below. Don’t forget to join the facey event here.
