Concert Review: Deltron 3030 @ Yaam Club (Berlin)

Last week saw the first Berlin landing ever of the spaceship of no less than Deltron Zero, better known as Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, teaming up with legendary producer Dan The Automator (DJ Shadow, Kasabian, Gorillaz) and undisputed turntable wizard Kid Koala, for hiphop’s one and only supergroup Deltron 3030.
On monday the trio’s UFO landed in Friedrichshain reggae club Yaam and with them an incredible eighteen piece symphonic orchestra, backing the allstar trio on the songs of their albums „Deltron 3030“ (2000) and „Event 2“ (2013). Dan The Automator, who happens to be a trained classical violinist, took over the conducting of the classical musicians, which made Deltron 3030’s songs sound even stronger than they basically are. However, as a consequence of this unexpected addition to the concert – which was also exclusively for the Berlin leg of the German tour dates – the aspect of futurism of the songs, with its bleeping sounds and science fiction-like effects, got a bit lost at the concert. But the crowd didn’t seem to care, au contraire: the atmosphere was great from the first to the last 5 minutes and they partied like there was no tomorrow – on a monday night.
It just was topped by the encore, which one could maybe guess but not really expect: the 21 musicians on stage performed an incredible version of Gorillaz’ 2001 debut single „Clint Eastwood“ whereupon in the following all hell broke loose in Yaam club. An unforgettable evening with three musical legends, who left the biggest part of the audience euphorised and very happy.
