Festivals: 68th Venice International Film Festival – Award Ceremony

The 68th Venice Film Festival came to an end with the Awards Ceremony on September 10th.

The president of the juries, Darren Aronofsky, stated that,“International cinema is alive & well”

The list of the prizes are:

Golden Lion for Best Film to Faust by Aleksander Sokurov.

Silver Lion for Best Director to Shangjun Cai for the filmRen Shan Ren Hai.

Special Jury Prize to Terraferma by Emanuele Crialese (Italy)

Coppa Volpi to Michael Fassbender (in the film Shame) and to Deanie Yip (in the film Tao Jie).

Marcello Mastroianni Award to Shôta Sometani and Fumi Nikaidô (in the film Himizu).

Osella for the Best Cinematography to Robbie Ryan for the film Wuthering Heights by Andrea Arnold (United Kingdom).

Osella for Best Screenplay to Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou for the film Alpis (Alps) by Yorgos Lanthimos (Grecia)

The Golden Lion winner, Aleksander Sokurov, stated “The Film doesn't need the views, the views need the film”, in a question from a Russian journalist about distribution of his film in his mother country.

We couldn't do something else, but to agree…

It is worth to mention that the short film “REC.” by the Greek Director, Dimitris Argyriou, presented in the Digital Library of the 68th Venice International Film Festival and received excellent reviews.

This was the 2nd presentation of that short film in an international film festival, after its premiere in Short Film Corner – Festival De Cannes.
