Festivals: The madness of Sziget (8-15 August 2011)

A small introduction:
Sziget is an annual 7 days music festival that is one of the biggest in Europe with about 400.000 visitors. It takes place on a island in the beautiful city of Budapest in the second week of August.

Sziget draws all sorts of people together through their desire to create, or enjoy creation, whether it is via music, painting, cinema or ballet. One look at the line-up or the attendance figures – over four hundred thousand people will cross the iron-wrought bridge that connects the river-island Obudai to the mainland across the great Danube river that week .

Let’s take a look at the Line Up.

The Maccabees from UK, Flogging Moly, Rise Against, Within Temptation, Empire of Sun, MotorHead, Hurts, my favorite Interpol and the awesome The Bloody Beetroots with their Death Crew 77 consist only some of the names which will perform in the 1st day of the festival.

What a beginning!!!

Xiu Xiu, La Roux, Good Charlotte,  Gotan Project, Judas Priest, Crystal Castles, Kasabian, The Flying Dewaele Brothers aka 2ManyDJs and the Grammy award – winning British electronic music duo, The Chemical Brothers and many more will rock the 2nd day of Sziget!

British Sea power, Skunk Anansie, Dylan Kwabena Mills, better known by his stage name Dizzee Rascal and then “Smack my Bitch Up”  THE PRODIGY will be in the main stage at 3rd day,

while Trentemoller with his live band, Peter Bjorn & John, Deftones and the one half of the Deep Dish, mr. Dubfire will be in the other stages.

4th day will start with some “Foundations” of Kate Nash, giving the stage to Kaiser Chiefs and it is just Thirty Seconds To Mars!

Zombie Nation, LostProphets and mr. Goran Bregovic with his Wedding and Funeral Band will be there too

Last day will start wearing purple… ladies and gentleman Gogol Bordello on stage, after the gypsy punk sounds The National will change the audience ‘s mood, preparing the ground for the Manic Street Preachers and The White Lies will close this brilliant day.

In the other stages, Kid Cudi will keep you dancing “Day ‘n’ Night” and the princess Marina Lambrini Diamandis, better known as Marina & The Diamonds will bring you “The Family Jewels”.

Sziget is already amongst the top 10 of Europe’s biggest festivals and I can see why.
