Zach Hill is one of the most talented drummers of our times and one of the busiest ones. To have an idea of how busy he is just I will just name a few of the groups he plays/ played Hella, Holy Smokes, Nervous Cop, El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Team Sleep (featuring Chino Moreno of Deftones), Goon Moon, Marnie Stern, Crime in Choir, The Ladies (a duo with Rob Crow of Pinback), and I almost forget to mention the Wavves. By the way Hill recorded an album with Nathan Williams (Wavves) that will be released sometime soon.
“Memo To The Man” features Greg Saunier of Deerhoof double-drumming with Hill, along with Reinhart of Tera Melos on guitar. The song is taken from Hill’s record Face Tat that is coming out on the 19th of October 2010 via Sargent House.
Some of the friends that helped Hill on Face Tat are Devendra Banhart, No Age (Dean Spunt and Randy Randall), Guillermo Scott Herren (Prefuse 73), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Carson McWhirter (Hella), Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos, Bygones) and Robby Moncrieff (Raleigh Moncrieff).
If you wonder how this album sounds like just read what Zach says:
“There’s an emphasis on experimenting with ‘destroying’ sounds so that the source of the melody, rhythms, vocals, etc., is not recognizable or traceable, and then building these things into abstract forms of pop music with conventional structures. Some of the most melodic aspects to this recording are coming from things like the sound of pissing/urinating on a stack of Rolling Stonemagazines (I have a subscription), kicking in the screen of a computer, arguments on the street, etc.”
Don’t forget to watch The Sacto Smile video! (Hmm this could be a Atari Teenage Riot video)
