Whenever the name Calibre pops up on a poster, my heart starts racing. First of all because it feels like it’s pretty rare to actually ever get to see him play and then because he is one of the finest producers in the drum and bass world and one of the figures that everyone looks up to. Over the course of 15 years, Calibre has released a grand total of 10 albums, countless singles, remixes and more than enough tracks to be able to bash out 6 hour sets of his own material and still have enough quality tunes left over to wipe the floor with the crowds sweaty loved up bodies.
Calibre has been responsible for some of the most beautiful tracks in drum & bass, taking in elements of jazz, funk, dub, techno and always smothering them with a deep layer of soulfulness. His releases have graced the desks of labels like Soul:R, CIA, 31 Records, Commercial Suicide, Liquid V, Bassbin, Ganja, Exit, Samurai Red Seal, Critical, Integral, Quarantine, Deep Medi, Digital Soundboy as well as his own label Signature Recordings and the Irishman was also drafted in by the Fabric crew for Fabriclive n°68. Incredibly, all this has been done with a practically inexistant social media presence, showing that when the music is beyond good there isn’t necessarily a need to add to the ambient noise and constant battle for attention.
In Berlin we are in luck, as the lovely folks from CTRL are bringing down the master for a very special night at Rosi’s on Saturday June 7th. Support throughout the night will be provided by Soulfsurfer, Addi Tude, Franzi Fritz and Stefano Aluzzi and we are happy to announce that we have 2 tickets to give out for the event. Usual rule applies, just comment under the article with your name and the winner will be picked on the day before the event.
So if you are in need of a big fast healthy dose of liquid love bring your bodies down to the party because Calibre is definitely not someone you want to be missing out on.
