Fluttering at the intersection of sound research, dramaturgy, narration, affect in contemporary electronic music and gargantuously adipose music the Not Equal party series returns to Berghain for yet another night of full-on deep and dark stomach turning music.
The seventh edition’s line-up will be leading us through various musical phases, with a gradual evolution through dramaturgical density and physicality, from listening to club with the deep timbres and coarse intensity of the sound reverberating through the thick walls of the ever fabled Friedrichshain club.
Standing firmly at the partition of industrial, avant-garde and club music, Pan Sonic’s Mika Vainio will be bringing in his palette of somber distorted soundscapes and showcasing material from his latest studio effort Kilo.
A highly respected act in both techno and industrial circles, Orphx will be following up on their 2012 Berghain performance and making the most of the ridiculous sound-system with their signature fusion of hypnotic rhythms and experimental noise.
Representing the Berlin based label Pan, commander in chief Bill Kouligas has with his uncompromised curation given a platform to artists such as Florian Hecker and Lee Gamble. With a bunch of releases by the likes of Bass Clef, M.E.S.H and Beneath already gracing the shelves of 2014, the label is not going to be going anywhere soon. Definitely not a set to be missed.
Closing the line-up, Nhk’ Koyxen, Moon Wheel and Not Equal favourite Opium Hum will be giving the audience’s ribs a heavy dose of rattling and if that is not enough, none other than Laurent Garnier will be manning the decks at Panorama Bar alongside AlexKid and Marc Schneider.
