Australien-born Chelsea May aka Chela is releasing her EP “Romanticise” on Kitsuné Maison on August 26th, 2013. Besides the Original Version the EP also features remixes by Gold Fields, Collarbones, Boys Get Hurt, Le Bruce & Fascinator. After quickly making waves in the world of electro-pop and dance, Chela featured on LA producer Goldroom’s summer anthem and radio hit ‘Fifteen’, as well as indie group Clubfeet’s single ‘Heartbreak’. Reaching number 1 status on charts and Australian national radio playlists with her vocal prowess, Chela’s own singles ‘Full Moon’, ‘Guts’, and more recently the Zero Mixtape produced by LeBruce (Clubfeet), has continued to reinforce the dawning Chela ‘identity’. Currently back in the studio to write and produce a debut album, 2013 is shaping up to be a big year for Chela. Read our FAZE TIME with her below.

My name is Chelsea May but you might know me as Chela. I was born in Perth, Western Australia and grew up many different places like a gypsy. When I was a child my idol was Michael Jackson, because he was an entertainer first and foremost. When  I was 15, I started listening to The Hives. It was then when I realised that I wanted to be a punk and decided to play bass guitar in a punk band. Since then I have evolved into an alt-pop artist.

One of my best gigs I played was at Liberty Social on the Kitsune Soleil Club Night Tour.It was so much fun because it was dingy and carefree and I almost injured myself dancing on a rickety table.

One of the best gigs I have been to was Bon Iver at Sidney Myer Music Bowl. I loved the 9 piece band, they really brought the record to life.

Now I live in Hampton with my mum. In my house you can find many a cushion and my refrigerator is usually full with my mothers delicious cooking. I enjoy walking to the beach alone and swimming alone at the beach in the summer a lot. I can spend hours driving aimlessly. One of my favorite places to visit is Mileto’s on Chapel Street in Windsor, because it’s like visiting a friend’s home rather than a cafe.

On weekdays I work on music and on weekends I usually work on music.

My favorite song at the moment is Is This How You Feel? by The Preatures. A film I watched lately and really liked was an Australian film called Galore, directed by Rhys Graham. The last series I watched and loved was Vice’s Fashion Week Internationale hosted by a girl named Charlet.

I am very inspired by discovering new places. My dream is to tour the world. My worst nightmare is harm to my sister.

I love icecream and hate cream.

I am addicted to red-heads, I just cannot stop perving on them.

I get totally fucked up, when I feel that I deserve to. The next day I need to have a green smoothie from Glo Health.

Local Suicide reminds me of that time I found 10 dollars in my pocket.

Tomorrow I will learn how to DJ. Next month I will DJ like a pro. Next year I will move to New York. In 10 years I hope to be alive.

If I wasn’t a person with high testosterone, I would be a more balanced individual.

If my life was a Hollywood movie, Whiplash the cowboy monkey would have the main role, because he’s the most like me.

If I was a car, I would be a XJ Jeep Cherokee with wood grain detailing. If I was an animal, I would be a marmoset. If I was a drug I would be magic mushrooms. If I was an invention, I would be a candle. If I was an object, I would be a galaxy night-time light for kids. If I could date myself, I would bring a cake as a gift.

If I could play with anyone it would be Die Antwoord. I would like to collaborate with Ariel Pink.

If I had only one wish, it would be for endless wishes.

I would never stop making music, because I wouldn’t know how else to express myself.

My word of advice to the reader would be to break the rules.
