The Belgian label Eskimo Recordings has been spoiling us with great releases for quite some time, and they never disappoint. Whether we’re talking about Aeroplane, Satin Jackets or Prins Thomas, the label’s musical identity revolves around the balearic beat which seems to have taken over the dance floors lately, and their latest release is the perfect embodiment of that dreamy vibe.
With its vibrant music scene, it’s no surprise that Norway inspired many very well know DJs, and Vinny Villbass is one of them. He is one of the people behind the Oslo club night Sunkissed and initiator of the Norwegian web-portal OsloClubCast, building ties between the clubs, DJs, and producers of Oslo. During his long career as a DJ, he released on Afro Art, Kindisch, Troll and Rebirth, and he’s now releasing on Eskimo Recordings, with his most recent EP “The Itch” being out on March 4th. The Itch starts off with some heavy synths and a bassline that might fool your expectations, but somewhere halfway through the song, the sweetness of the chords is changing the ambiance, while still maintaining the dance floor mood. The EP also includes 2 remixes from Whatever/Whatever and Alejandro Mosso, which even if they don’t go far from the original, they still surprise the listener, blending the balearic sound with some acid beats and tribal percussion.
