Alex Dolby

Rome-based DJ and producer Alex Dolby has a well crafted artistic vision that draws inspiration from the musical transformation that occurred in the underground music scene and raves of ’90s Rome. He has travelled the world over, performing in clubs and churning out hit after hit along the way. In 2013, he became inspired to open his own club in response to musical culture he wished to spread. Thus, Affekt Club was born.

Experimentation and a love for the underground music scene have always been and continue to be essential to Alex Dolby’s creative output. His latest release proves that.

My name is Alex Dolby. I was born in Frosinone. When I was 14 I started partying and was fascinated by the DJ’s who made people dance. When I was 15, I started to buy my first vinyls. The music ranged from techno to house. I can’t forget the smell of the vinyls and the emotions I felt every time in every record shop. It was then when I realized that it could become my job and decided to start playing at some parties and to begin producing some music. Since then I have worked hard until my first release in the late 90’s, which changed my life. One of my best gigs I played was Woodstock69 in Amsterdam some years ago. It was so much fun because it was great to play from the afternoon until midnight with thousands of people dancing during one of the best sunsets I ever saw.

Now I live in Frosinone with my two dogs. In my house you can find many vinyls and analogue machines, and my refrigerator is usually full with beer. I enjoy preparing food and eat a lot. I can spend hours in my studio. One of my favorite places to visit is Naples. On weekdays I spend my time in the studio and on weekends I usually perform gigs or if I’m off I go to visit friends. A film I watched lately and really liked was The Red Sparrow. I am very inspired by 90’s Techno and of course art and photography. My dream is to make money and to live on an island. My worst nightmare is to lose someone. I love to prepare food and hate some types of people. I am addicted to Pasta. I get totally fucked up when I have to wake up early to go to the airport.

Tomorrow I will spend my day in the studio as usual. Next month I am going to play in Berlin. Next year I hope to be even better and to still be producing good music. In 10 years I hope I hope to realize my dreams.

If I wasn’t a DJ / Producer, I would be a Chef. If I was a car, I would be a Ford Mustang. If I was an animal, I would be a bird.

My word of advice to the reader would be to be strong forever!!
