Axel Bartsch went through many stages before becoming the artist we have religiously been following for the past years. He grew up listening to the 80’s new wave, started spinning funk, promoted raves in the 90’s and set up his first label with his friend Asem Shama, with whom he then collaborated on the Vanguard project. Since then he has been releasing on respected labels like Kompakt and djing at the best venues all over the world. Ladies and gentlemen meet the marvelous Mr Axel Bartsch!
My name is Axel but you might know me as Axel Bartsch. I was born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein and grew up Hannover. When I was a child my idol was Kevin Keagen, because he was the mighty mouse. When I was 19, I started thinking of what´s really important in life. It was then when I realised that how you are is most important and not what you have and decided to not go too crazy about little things. Since then I am different and more balanced.
One of my best gigs I played was Schranz in den Mai at Palazzo Bingen. It was so much fun cause it was packed all around, everybody went crazy and it felt like one big bouncing materia.
One of the best gigs I have been to was Radiohead. I loved to feel the power of music.
Now I live in Berlin with my wife Lauren. In my house you can find wine and whiskey and my refrigerator is usually full with cheese and vegies. I enjoy our lives and our neighborhood a lot. I can spend hours at Schlawinchen. One of my favorite places to visit is Marques, Kim Chi Princess, because there is good food in a walking distance.
On weekdays I work, play soccer, chill and on weekends I usually work, play soccer, chill.
My favorite song at the moment is Royskopp, Poor Leno, Silicon Soul Remix with Erlend Oye “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” vocals. A film I watched lately and really liked was Melancholia. The last series I watched and loved was Breaking Bad.
I am very inspired by music. My dream is to be without worries. My worst nightmare is loosing beloved.
I love my family, friends, music and hate the circle of violence.
I am addicted to Nutella, I just cannot stop drinking.
I get totally fucked up, when I haven´t drunk for a while and can´t say no to the bad shots anymore. The next day I need to lay, eat pizza, take some pills and watch tv.
Local Suicide reminds me of today´s life.
Tomorrow I move the studio. Next month the autumn saison starts. Next year I want to release something like 20 years on techno thing and a Vanguard album. In 10 years I hope to be prepared for the next 10 years.
If I wasn’t a DJ, I would be a lawyer.
If my life was a Hollywood movie, Jürgen Vogel would have the main role, because I like him and he should play in one Hollywood movie. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be Lauren (HELLO! I´m married!).
If I was a car, I would be an old Alpha Romeo. If I was an animal, I would be a eagle shark. If I was a drug I would be love. If I was an invention, I would be warp speed traveling. If I was an object, I would be a tree. If I could date myself, I would be confused.
If I could play with anyone it would be Soft Cell. I would like to collaborate with so many. Let´s start with the ones I mentioned already above.
If I had only one wish, it would be world peace. I would never say never, because who knows.
My word of advice to the reader would be to take care.
