Madrid based producer and DJ Bawrut is one of the artists that we played the most at our sets in the last two years after discovering him through his Ciquita EP (and the Moscoman remix after) on Ransom Note Records. Since then he has put out a few more great EP’s on Hard Fist, Ransom Note and now Pets Recordings besides remixing C.A.R., Marlon Hoffstadt, Joe Goddard, SHMLSS & many more.

Read our FAZE TIME with him to find out more about him and listen to his new ‘Jomo EP‘ (order here) on Pets Recordings releases below!

My name is Borut but you might know me as Bawrut. I was born in Gorizia and grew up in Mitteleuropa, no borders just butter instead olive oil. When I was a child my idol was Gerald Durrell, because I wanted to be a naturalist. When I was 15, I started to make graffiti and listen to hip hop. It was then when I realised that making beats could be cool and decided to plug a turntable to a sampler. Since then I bought an AKAI S3000 and with an old Cubase version I started to make music.

One of my best gigs I played was at Sonar 2017. As I arrived at the stage they told that I had to replace the next act since the artist was unreachable. It was so much fun and I was very stressed and as i started to play all the stress faded away. Played for entertain the crowd and it was a success. Thanks Princess Nokia for your delay.

One of the best gigs I have been to was Brian Wilson presents Pet Sounds 2 years ago. I loved singing the whole album with tears in my eyes.

Now I live in Madrid with Rocio, my girlfriend, and Summer and Melo, our 2 greyhounds. In my house you can find Records, Plants and two lightboxes, one with a giant B and another with the word SILENCIO and my refrigerator is usually full with vegetables and grappa and pelinkovac in the freezer. I enjoy making music a lot. I can spend hours talking about food while i’m cooking, eating or just hanging out. One of my favorite places to visit is Calle del Gobernador with Costanilla de los Desamparados, because you have a view of the botanic garden and the Retiro park

On weekdays I walk the dogs, have a coffee at Acid Cafè with Fede, make music and cook (Thursday is Giovedì Pizza!) and on weekends I usually play around in clubs. My favorite song at the moment is ‘Rosalia – De aqui no sales’. A film I watched lately and liked was Sulla Mia Pelle, Chasing Trane, Quincy, Todo Sobre Mi Madre. The last series I watched and loved was The Defiant Ones, Hip Hop Revolution, Evil Genius. The last book I read was Retromania by Simon Reynolds. I am very inspired by people who stay the whole day on social media. They helped me to get focus on what I really need. My dream is to living in a more sustainable world, could be cool for us and the globe as well. My worst nightmare is being someone that I don’t respect. I love human beings and hate human beings.

I am addicted to chocolate, sugar and all that devilish sweet things. I just cannot stop staring at people/things and complaining like an old grandpa. I get totally fucked up, when I cut some food on the chopping board and a piece falls on the floor. The next day I need to complete my daily routine.

Local Suicide reminds me of that Family Guy episode when Meg almost dies in a suicide party.

Tomorrow I will work on some new music. Next month I will detox my body after christmas libations. Next year I will be looking for christmas presents. In 10 years I hope all this idiots and their conspiracy/populist theory will be over.

If I wasn’t a DJ/Producer, I would be a nice guy behind a desk, a waiter, cook, gasoline boy. If my life was a Hollywood movie, National Lampoons would have the main role, because Chevy Chase of course. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be (in the movie?) his wife, Beverly D’Angelo. Don’t care about the blonde girl with the red Ferrari. If I was a car, I would be a Porsche 911 Turbo S, where Turbo is the anagram of Borut and S means Swag. I’m joking, i would be an electric VolksWagen Bus. If I was an animal, I would be a greyhound. If I was a drug I would be MDMA, people say that (I never tried it to be honest). If I was an invention, I would be the “Everything’s OK Alarm” by Homer Simpson. If I was an object, I would be a scale. If I could date myself, I would be late. If I could play with anyone it would be Avalon Emerson. I would like to collaborate with Koze, Barnt and Maurice Fulton. If I had only one wish, it would be to resolve problems with a double snap.I would never say never because you never know.

My word of advice to the reader would be to be empathic.
