LSD FAZE TIME: Charlotte de Witte

It’s been 13 years since Charlotte de Witte retired her Raving George moniker, switching to her real name, which has now become of staple of her native Belgium as well as the global techno scene. Charlotte’s been going from strength to strength as a DJ but also as a gifted, intuitive producer, with releases on Tiga’s Turbo, Andre Crom’s OFF Recordings and Hans Bouffmyhre’s Sleaze before settling into the Amsterdam based Mary Go Wild Black. 2017 has been a great year for the Belgian producer, and we expect 2018 to be nothing less than exciting!

My name is Charlotte de Witte but you might know me as Charlotte de Witte. I was born in Ghent, Belgium and grew up in Ghent, Merelbeke and Evergem. When I was a child my idol was Laïs, a Belgian folk band (I came a long way), because I loved singing and liked their music. When I was 16, I started going out to underground clubs in Ghent. It was then when I realised that there must be something more than the shitty commercial music they played at the local parties and decided to have a go at this DJing thing myself. Since then I realised just how much I fell in love with electronic underground music.

One of the best gigs I played was Rock Werchter this summer. It was so much fun because the tent was packed with 10.000 extremely enthusiastic people and it’s actually a rock festival so it didn’t expect that to happen at all.
One of the best gigs I have been to was Awakenings, years ago. I loved that I noticed for the first time how techno is actually a way of life, more than just a type of music.

Now I live in Brussels with my boyfriend. In my house you can find no animals, which saddens me a lot and my refrigerator is usually full with expired food. I enjoy sharing food with people I love and having time to spend in the studio a lot. I can spend hours searching for new music. One of my favorite places to visit is the arctic (Lapland), because nature is so pure and beautiful with this relaxing silence all around..

On weekdays I try to spend as much time as I can in the studio and on weekends I usually travel from one country to another to play in different club.

My favorite song at the moment is Reform – Queen Of Hearts (Charles Fenckler Remix). A film I watched lately and really liked was Miss Potter (a slow, feel good film). The last series I watched and loved was Fargo.

I am very inspired by listening to other people’s sets or music, conversations, art, food… The list is never ending.. I am addicted to soy sauce, I just cannot stop buying black, ripped jeans. I get totally fucked up, when I drink one glass of cava or champagne while already being drunk from drinking cocktails. That’s my easiest and fastest way to get completely drunk.. The next day I need to hide in shame.

Local Suicide reminds me of a fill in the blanks test I had in high school.

Tomorrow I will return home. Next month I’ll be touring Central and South America. Next year I hope to keep on working on my production skills in order to release more and better music. In 10 years I hope I can look back with a huge smile on my face.

If I wasn’t a woman, I would be a man.
If my life was a Hollywood movie, a three legged dog would have the main role, because it would make things more interesting.
If I was a car, I would be a SUV. If I was a drug I would be an upper, not a downer. If I was an invention, I would be a time machine. If I could date myself, I would hate to be with someone too similar like me.

I would like to collaborate with Lera Lynn. If I had only one wish, it would be to have many more. I would never intentionally hurt someone, because I try to be a good person.

My word of advice to the reader would be to do the same and enjoy this beautiful life..
