LSD FAZE TIME: Deap Vally

They are valley girls. They sing the blues. They’re  playing rock’n’roll. They sweat. They move. They  groove. They walk their electric rock on all roads.
Lindsey on the guitar and on the vocals, and Julie on the drums and on the vocals too. They are Deap Vally and certainly one of the best things that ever happened to rock “girls” for a long time.

A recommendation I got during my last trip to Los Angeles. Saw the band in August at Rock en Seine – Paris and totally fell in love with the rock n’roll pure spirit of these two girls. It was a chemical reaction. Their strength, energy and power touched me.

PAST

L : My name is Lindsey Troy. I was born into the world out of my mother’s loving womb and grew up in the sunny, sunny suburbs of Southern California.
When I was a child my idol was Courtney Love because she was hard as fuck.
When I was I started working out along to the “Mousersice” work-out tape I received on my 5th birthday.
It was then when I realized that “Mousersice” was the shit and decided to keep utilizing the video tape for years to come.
Since then I have put the tape into retirement, but still think of it fondly upon occasion.

J : My name is Julie Edwards. I was born in Tarzana, California and grew up in the San Fernando Valley.
When I was a child my idol was Marlene Dietrich, because she was hard as fuck.
When I was 6 years old, I started speaking French.
It was then when I realised that graham crackers get soggy and decided to put on a musical.
Since then I have been distilling my purpose.

L : One of my best gigs I played was at Rock en Seine in Paris. It was so much fun making Deap, primal love to the audience and impregnating them with our Vally-licious vibrations .
J : One of my best gigs I played was Rock En Seine Festival 2012. It was so much fun to share the energy of thousands of people and play in the shadow of centuries old sculptures.

L : One of the best gigs I have been to was Nine Inch Nails at Coachella in 2005. I loved the true rock’n’roll high I experienced.
J : One of the best gigs I have been to was Autolux and Blonde Redhead at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles maybe in 2007. I loved Autolux’s beautiful brutality and Blonde Redhead’s disjointed melody.

PRESENT

L : Now I live in hotel rooms with my babely red-headed soul-sister, Julie.
In my house you can find two people living there, neither of which are me, and my refrigerator is usually full with food that isn’t mine.
I enjoy laughing and sleeping a lot.
I can spend hours knitting.
One of my favorite places to visit is my mama’s house because I get to be with my mama.

J : Now I live in Mt. Washington, Los Angeles with the love of my life. In my house you can find creepy old paintings of owls and my refrigerator is usually full with kale, flax powder, and bacon.
I enjoy reading rock’n’roll biographies and watching crimes documentaries a lot.
I can spend hours sitting on a bus.
One of my favorite places to visit is White Sands National Monument, New Mexico, because it’s a giant, powdery white sandbox.

L and J: On weekdays I play shows and on weekends I usually play shows.

L : My favorite song at the moment is Iggy’s “Passenger”.
J : My favorite song at the moment is Yellow Elevator by The Black Angels.

L : A film I watched lately and really liked was “Drive” .
J :  A film I watched lately and really liked was “The Master”.

L : I love grilled cheese sandwiches and hate corned beef.
J :  I love ancient ruins and hate eczema.

L :I am addicted to cupcakes, I just cannot stop craving them.
J : I am addicted to love, I just cannot stop complaining.

J : I get totally fucked up, when I sleep in my contact lenses. The next day I need to promise myself I never will again.

L : Local Suicide reminds me of the 90’s.
J : Local Suicide reminds me of an inflatable banana on wheels.

FUTURE

L : Tomorrow I am going on a run and then opening for the Vaccines in Cologne, Germany. Next month I’m going to Tokyo for the first time and hopefully eating the best sushi of my life. Next year is going to be one crazy mother-fucking year.
In 10 years I hope that me and everyone I love is happy and healthy.

J : Tomorrow I will visit a Jewish ghetto in Köln. Next month miles and miles of English cow-dotted countryside will flow past me. Next year I will release my first full length record and tour the world with Lindsey Troy.
In 10 years I hope they will have eradicated eczema completely.

HYPOTHESES
