The dutch musician/producer Dollkraut recently released his second long player via new Correspondant sister label Dischi Autunno after putting out EP’s in the last 8 years on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Charlois, Doppelschall & The Gym. His latest 9-track journey ‘Holy Ghost People’ is an adventurous ride driven by 70s synths, and a lot of krauty & pop elements! Pascal Pinkert kindly took the time to answer our LSD FAZE TIME feature which you can read below!
My name is Pascal AKA Dollie but you might know me as Dollkraut. I was born in the eastern part of The Netherlands and grew up in Hengelo. When I was a child my idol was David Hasselhoff, because he drove a talking car. When I was 15, I started to check out girls and I found out they liked my dancing moves… It was then when I realised that I was born to make the girls shiver and let them dance to my musical creations and decided to do this more often. Since then I was playing records in clubs, tunnels and warehouses all over The Netherlands.
One of my best gigs I played was with my band at the Heart Of Glass, Heart Of Gold Festival in the southern of France. It was so much fun people got on stage and joined our manifest of swing and one guy totally danced his ass of and so I gave him a cowbell with a drumstick and he joined the song which we played at that particular moment.
One of the best gigs I have been to was Portishead at Lowlands Festival. I loved the beer outside the tent.
Now I live in Amsterdam together with a whole bunch of friends. In my house you can find a bed, a fridge, a closet and 1500 records and my refrigerator is usually full with yoghurt and burgers. I enjoy buying crap from second hand stores and the yellow pages a lot. I can spend hours checking out, buying old stuff from mostly the 70’s. One of my favorite places to visit is my very own studio, because there’s where the magic happens. On weekdays I get up at 8 and on weekends I usually drink my coffee outside. My favorite song at the moment is David Lynch – Speed Roadster. A film I watched lately and really liked was ‘the man who climbed out the window and disappeared’. The last series I watched and loved was The Soundcraft Series 1600 mixing console. Good sound, great EQ, also known as the ‘Tom Petty Board’. I am very inspired by John Barry, old Moog, ARP and other vintage gear. My dream is to have my studio on top of a hill (next to a swimming pool) with A View To A Kill. My worst nightmare is not having this in a couple years.
I love women and hate anti smokers.
I am addicted to fried fries and KFC. Oh and my girl, I just cannot stop touching her behind.
I get totally fucked up, when I am too late for an apointment. The next day I need to forget about this and buy a watch.
Local Suicide reminds me of a band from the 80’s.
Tomorrow I will try to take over the world. Next month I‘ll try to do the same. Next year I still to rock stages all over the world. In 10 years I hope to own that damn studio on top of athat hill (next to that swimming pool).
If I wasn’t a boy, I would be a girl.
If my life was a Hollywood movie, I wouldn’t be here in this stinky, warm studio sweating my ass off trying to write some songs for the people. But if it would be a movie, my mom would have the main role, because she deserves it to be a superstar. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be Jane Birkin, Lara Stone and my girl. At the same time please.
If I was a car, I would be a Pontiac Trans Am (K.I.T.T). If I was an animal, I would be a Bird Of Paradise. If I was a drug I would be LSD. If I was an invention, I would be a Tesla coil. If I was an object, I would be a transistor guitar amp. If I could date myself, I’d probably be turned down.
If I could play with anyone it would be John Barry. I would like to collaborate with Adrian Utley, David Byrne, David Bowie, Joe Bonham, Toots Thielemans, Henry Vrienten, Rogier van Otterloo.
If I had only one wish, it would be to stay healthy, the rest of my life.
I would never vote for Trump, because I do think for myself by using my own brains.
My word of advice to the reader would be to read this piece again please.
