” Some DJ careers are built on hype. Emeraldia Ayakashi’s career is built on substance. ” Except from being an amazing dj, she is also an super talented producer and remixer. A beauty with a unique style. Characterized by her good taste, she is also one of our blogs most valuable members. You gotta love her!
She released last month her amazing new E.P “I Walk to the Beat of my Own Drum“, which is a solid affair, with its three tracks revealing slightly different facets of the Emeraldia sound.
“Sometimes” locks a glistening melody into place, and doesn’t let go for nearly seven minutes, floating it gently throughout its length.
“Orage” Emeraldia has successfully perfected a sort of laidback techno, full of melody and light that has a mainstream appeal that is hard to deny, and generally innocuous until another melody comes from on high to interlock.
“I walk to the beat of my own Drum” is slightly more muscular with circular-motion bassline. A classical deep house strain from a pedestal, both untouchable and insistently, movingly close.
My name is Emeraldia Ayakashi. I was born in Bourges and grew up in Montpellier (South of France). When I was a child my idol was Jacques Mayol, because on his first dive, contrary to what had been predicted, his chest was not crushed by the pressure at the depth of 40 m, which revealed the “bloodshift”, this physiological adaptation required for withstand without damage to the water pressure when diving beyond thirty meters are marine mammals, seals, sea lions, but we did not know that the man can also demonstrate the same capacity, even to a lesser degree. Experimental dives for his pulse down to 26 beats per minute So it grows up in my head as a child to learn yoga and concentration and try to be like him, and lead me hours and hoursin my swimming pool, which obviously did not work but I continued yoga.
When i was 9 i started playing the guitar and the piano. During my teens, i also learnt the battery and the violin. I made my first steps into the world of music (Rock, Punk and Gothic ) through my involvements in different music bands during my adolescence. Then, in 1996, I launched myself into the live performance scene with utilization of machines across the decks and my inseparable MikroKorg during free parties.
One of my best gigs I played was Sziget Festival in Budapest, with my precious friend and manager Clarissa, which is no longer of this world. She taught me to be confident in myself and what I do and always do it with love. It was so much fun to jump into the audience and that people was receptive to Maria Callas mixed with Prodigy (for example), feel the love vibrations and sharing with the audience who applauded you warmly to the end of your set. One of the best gigs I have been to was the Cure in Orange in 1987when i was 8, with my aunt. I loved Robert Smith it seems to be „cliché“ sometimes, but the trilogy : Faith, Disintegration and Seventeen Seconds are like old friends who are always there for you.
Now I live in Paris with my bonzaï Sacha. In my house you can find a very important collection of Sneakers and my refrigerator is usually full with milk. I enjoy to read Japanese literature or french and english classics authors like Virginia Woolf or Charles Baudelaire and watch movies a lot. I can spend hours to listen music and play synths in my room.
One of my favorite places to visit is the lighthouse of Sète, called the “singular island” (a term due to Paul Valéry), Sète was born artists such as Paul Valéry, Georges Brassens, Manitas de Plata, Jean Vilar, Pierre Nocca, or brothers Di Rosa. Because flashinglights which resembles to the motion of a little music box and also the point of view in front of he sea is beautiful . Really love to stand here with my best friend.
On weekdays I record in studio, play in radioshows, swim, cook for friends and on weekends I usually party with friends when i’m playing or not and walk on the docks with music in my ears. My favorite song at the moment is Sulk by TRUST. A film I watched lately and really liked was Café de Flore with Vanessa Paradis, who says it is not easy to say goodbye to loved ones, to do that, sometimes it takes a lifetime – or two. Paris between the 1960s and the Montreal today unfolds a vast love story both light and dark, disturbing and yet hopeful. The last series I watched and loved was Breaking Bad.
I am very inspired by watching people breathe, my friends which were very important for their support this year and Love who comes and go away. I love movies cannot stop loving the way the combine my favorite things (sound and dialogue) in my mixtape. And hate nothing, hatred spilled much ink… Far from being innocent, it leaves behind its passage and injury consequences. There is nothing really except that I hate sardines.. I am addicted to sneakers, I just cannot stop to continue the collection. I get totally fucked up, when I bobbies in doors because I’m not awake.. The next day I need to to find my way into space when I wake up.
Local Suicide reminds me of a beautiful virtual meeting first, and a favorite human when we finally met. Beyond this, what I like is the variety of posts that are as sharp and delicate like a good piece of chocolate. A true passionate team, I am proud to be part.
Tomorrow I play with 2 friends in a club and after go to party with friends at the Klub in Paris. Next month I will certainly return recordin‘ , playin‘ and surfin‘ in Los Angeles, and also work on my next E.P „ Wish you Were Hear „ . Next year I want to go live in Los Angeles and be back in France sometimes. In 10 years I hope to have my own label, to discover artists from various influences that I love. And also get an interactive gallery that mingle the sound design and virtual arrays or structures with which the public can interact..
If I wasn’t an artist, i would be a Jedi, i keep it in my next life. If my life was a Hollywood movie, Plan 9 from Outer Space by Edward Davis « Ed » Wood Junior would have the main role, because i love his imperfections which today have inspired more than one, their technical errors, special effects enthusiasts and misuse of archival images. The film also has its generic a number of experienced actors or personalities recognized at the time: Lyle Talbot (known for many serials and westerns in the ’40s), the former presenter Vampira, wrestler Tor Johnson, TV presenter and medium Criswel and of course Bela Lugosi (who is in a silent role of a few minutes . Some rumors say that it took to actually force a vampire to play this creature, which has forced more my admiration for him soon my young age and even now, I use very often samples of his voice in my mixes. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be a girl like Tura Satana an American actress and former exotic dancer. She is best known for her role as Varla in the movie Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! by Russ Meyer. .. for extremes experiences ( joke ) . As well there are stories of sex and love stories with desire and passion. So I could have a love affair with a guy like The Real Hero ( Ryan Gosling ) in Drive. If I was a car, I would be a Black Mustang . If I was an animal, I would be a Unicorn (my kawaï side maybe) . If I was a drug I would be Sublingually, diffusing into the blood through tissues under the tongue. If I was an invention, I would be the Walkman who was invented in the year of my birth. If I was an object, I would be a perfume „ Serge Noire „ by Serge Lutens. If I could date myself, I will date me on the Pont des Arts, which reminds me of the movie „ La Fille sur le Pont „ by Patrice Leconte . If I could play with anyone it would be Paul Kalkbrenner. I would like to collaborate with Vangélis. If I had only one wish, it would be to play on the moon.
My word of advice to the reader would be to ” Igne Natura Renovator Integra “.
