Being a part of the Detroit underground techno scene for two decades, Erika has evolved from an insider tip to an international recognizable force with a fetish for crisp analogue sounds. Her debut album ‘Hexagon Cloud’ was produced without the use of a computer and manages to capture the transition between Detroit old school rooted sounds and new avant-garde music. An album as intriguing as the cloud structure it is named after. It is out on Interdimensional Transmissions! Grab your own copy here!
Find out more about the mysterious lady below!
My name is Erika. I was born in the rings of Saturn and grew up in New York. When I was a child my idol was my cat, because he could come and go as he pleased! When I was in middle school, I started listening to the radio. It was then when I realised that music was way more important than anything else and decided to become a radio DJ. Since then I worked my way through WCBN-FM Ann Arbor, and launched erika.net freeform internet radio.
One of the best gigs I played was the Movement festival in Detroit. It was so much fun making people’s eyeballs vibrate with all the bass and knowing that almost nobody there had even heard the music I was playing..
One of the best gigs I have been to was Claude Young, Dan Bell and Rob Hood at sardine bar, Detroit. I loved how it was loud, tiny, and the music blew my mind.
Now I live in Detroit with my drum machines and synthesizers. In my house you can find an 8×10 glossy of Nikola Tesla overlooking the DJ setup and my refrigerator is usually full with cold air. I enjoy playing video games and looking at pictures of cats on the internet a lot. I can spend hours turning knobs. One of my favorite places to visit is space, because it’s where I’m from!
On weekdays I sit in front of a computer and on weekends I usually get the fuck away from it.
My favorite song at the moment is impossible to tell, it changes too fast. A film I watched lately and really liked was star trek. The last series I watched and loved was star trek.
I am very inspired by star trek. My dream is to have a teleporter so it doesn’t take so long to get to places. My worst nightmare is being bored.
I love working on my projects and hate how there’s not enough time in the day.
I am addicted to music (duh), I just cannot stop listening.
I get totally fucked up, when I don’t pay enough attention, ooopz. The next day I need to watch star trek.
Tomorrow I will see what happens.
If I wasn’t a human, I would be a vulcan. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be (you know who you are!).
If I was a car, I would be a star ship. If I was an animal, I would be a tree. If I was a drug I would be LSD. If I was an invention, I would be a personal-use, localized wormhole. If I was an object, I would be a rock on the beach. If I could date myself, I so totally wouldn’t.
If I had only one wish, it would be to see the military-industrial complex crumble.
I would never say never, because everything is circumstantial.
My word of advice to the reader would be to drink a glass of water.
