i am poet
It all started as a project of Mannheim based Maximilian Hohenstatt. In order to evolve, the solo project turned into a band and three more members joined Elias Foerster, David Schnitzler und Iven Jansen. In 2013 i am a poet released their first album “Cypress” via Detector Records. Find out more about the talented young guys, watch their video and listen to their wonderful, melancholic music.

Our names are Maximilian, Elias, David and Iven but you might know us as i am poet. We were born in Germany and grew up in beautiful landscapes. In our childhood our idols were Tarzan, Knut Blumenhut, Eric Clapton and Pete Sampress, because short: they’re awesome. We met in Mannheim at university on a trainride. In 2022 we decided to travel back in time and start a new band, since our existing back then sounded like miley on a wreckingball. Since then we had to get used to fight without our beloved lightsabers.

One of the best gigs we played was at Maifeld Derby 2011. It was so much fun to play on a racetrack and listen to balthazar later on. One of the best gigs we have been to was Efterklang. We loved it.

Now we live in Mannheim and Heidelberg with cookie baking room mates. We meet every few days and produce some stuff we’re going to release after our debut album cypress. We sometimes argue when facebook communication fails, but then we watch star wars again. We enjoy our new sweet rehearsal room and turkish kebap a lot. We can spend hours sampling noisy sounds. One of our favorite places to visit is open space in nature, because we can calm down and enjoy pure inspiration.

On weekdays we work, rehearse and study and on weekends we usually work, rehearse and don’t study.

Our favorite songs at the moment are Darkside – Paper Trails and Royal Canoe – Exodus of the Year. Some films we watched lately and liked was Samsara. The last series we watched and loved was Breaking Bad.

We are very inspired by harbour, nature and all in between. Our dream is to make music all over the world. Our worst nightmare  happened this summer. We love to make a science out of sound and hate to have seven degrees celcius in our studio. We are addicted to intimate moments while creating music, we just cannot stop..

We get totally fucked up, when we get lost in file structures and backup systems.

Local Suicide reminds us of Munich, when we first met at Olympiapark.

Tomorrow we rehearse. Next month we push our debut album. Next year we like to play as much shows as we can. In 10 years we hope that our band is good enough, that we don’t have to travel back in time again.

If we weren’t musicians, we would be chefs and carpenters. If our lives were a Hollywood movie, kids and kids would have the main roles, because they’re honest and open minded. If we were a car, we would be a volvo p 1800. If we were an animal, we would be a humpback whale. If we were a drug, we would be mushrooms. If we were an invention, we would be sonar. If we were an object, we would be a ship. If we could date ourselves, we would think there’s something wrong.
If we could play with anyone it would be Radiohead. We would like to collaborate with James Blake, Justin Vernon, Nicolas Jaar and Thom Yorke.

If we had only one wish, it would be giving our listeners good moments and a place to hide. We would never stop loving music, because that’s what it’s all about.

Our word of advice to the reader would be to spread love and maybe the word.
