LSD Faze Time: Just Her

You might already be aware of Just Her via her work as part of duo Him_Self_Her, who topped the Beatport charts with Gone Too Long, released on leading house label Crosstown Rebels.

A respected producer in her own right, Just Her has appeared solo on the likes of Suara, Stil Vor Talent and Serkal and is set to release a new EP on her own Constant Circles imprint, which you can stream just below.

We were very happy to be able to catch up with the UK based artist for a spot of Faze Time in between a busy schedule of gigs and studio sessions.

My name is Claire, aka Just Her. I was born in Leicester and grew up too fast. When I was a child my idol was my Dad, because he taught me everything I know! When I was just out of Uni and working at an Outdoor Adventure Centre, I started teaching myself to DJ in the evenings. It was then when I realised that music and DJing was my calling and decided to pursue it as a career. Since then I’ve been back to University to study Music Technology, become a full time DJ/Producer, launched my own record label and played gigs all over the world. So you could say it was a good decision!

One of the best gigs I played was Truth in Johannesburg. It was so much fun playing my track and hearing the crowd sing it back to me, in fact I had a little cry! One of the best gigs I have been to was Circoloco at DC10 in Ibiza. I loved the vibe on the dancefloor and the famous ’sit down’ moment.

Now I live in a house with a decent music studio. In my house you can find actual books, you know, the ones made of paper! and my refrigerator is usually full with a bit of healthy stuff and a large amount of wine. I enjoy making music and running my record label a lot. I can spend hours searching for and listening to new music. One of my favorite places to visit is Beatport, because there’s so much good music right now, and who needs the real world when you’ve got the internet?!

On weekdays I do music stuff and on weekends I usually do music stuff with alcohol.

My favorite song at the moment is ermmmm, too many to choose, but probably a techno one. A film I watched lately and really liked was Ex-Machina. The last series I watched and loved was Breaking Bad. I am very inspired by any kind of art. I love LOVE and hate HATE! I am addicted to multi-tasking – I just cannot stop doing shit, all the time.

I get totally fucked up, when I go out with my old school friends, because we just get too excited. The next day I need to remind myself that I am a grown adult.

Local Suicide reminds me of being almost famous.

Tomorrow I head out to South Africa for a two week tour. Next month I’m hitting the studio to make a lot of new music. Next year I’ll be pushing just as hard. In 10 years I hope I still get to do this amazing job!

If I wasn’t a DJ/ Producer, I would probably still be coming up with crazy business ideas related to music and art.

If my life was a Hollywood movie, Paris Hilton would definitely NOT have the main role, for obvious reasons! If I could have sex with anyone, it would be none of your business!

If I was a car, I would be something really geeky like those ones with three wheels. If I was an animal, I would be a seahorse, because they are cool as f*ck. If I was a drug I would be caffeine, in the strongest coffee ever made. If I was an invention, I would be a time machine. If I was an object, I would be a cotton bud, because I’m good for your ears. If I could date myself, we’d probably never have time to see each other.

If I could play with anyone it would be some of my female counterparts like Maya Jane Coles, Heidi, Laura Jones; not because I’m a feminist, just because it would be fun! I would like to collaborate with anyone who is on the same wavelength as me, musically and personally.

If I had only one wish, it would be for the world to be fair and equal for everyone.

I would never eat yellow snow, because that’s just plain wrong.

My word of advice to the reader would be to do epic shit!
