The NYC-based label head, record collector & producer Mike Simonetti is a true legend. After founding his first record label Troubleman Unlimited (Glass Candy, Chromatics Prurient, Zola Jesus, The Walkmen) in 1993 which later became on of the most influential post punk labels of the decade he then launched the more dance oriented label Italians Do It Better with Johnny Jewel and in 2015 his latest enterprise 2MR (Two Mikes Records).

Besides that he kept himself busy deejaying globally and releasing originals, edits & remixes as Mike Simonetti and as half of Pale Blue (with vocalist Elizabeth Wight). We are proud to present you our LSD FAZE TIME interview feature with him below.

My name is Mike Simonetti but you might know me as Mike, or one half of Pale Blue. I was born in Bayonne New Jersey and grew up in Bayonne New Jersey. When I was a child my idol was Reggie Jackson, because I wanted to be a baselball player, but as I got older onto my pre-teens my heroes became skateboarders, BMX racers, and punk rock musicians. When I was 11, I started racing BMX. It was then when I realised that it was all I wanted to do and decided to quit baseball and basketball forever. Since then I discovered skateboarding, and then discovered punk rock and then discovered dance music.

One of my best gigs I played was closing out Primavera Festival two years ago. It was so much fun because it was in the morning when the sun was coming up and there were fireworks in the sky. One of the best gigs I have been to was My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr at Maxwells in Hoboken in the 1990s. I loved everything about it. It was fucking loud.

Now I live in Maplewood NJ with my family. In my house you can find kids toys, legos, and a lot of kids books and my refrigerator is usually full with flavored seltzer and leftovers. I enjoy sleeping and record shopping a lot. I can spend hours obsessing over shit. One of my favorite places to visit is Porto Portugal, because I love everything about it. I would move there.

On weekdays I wake up, drink coffee,  make the kids breakfast, get the kids off to school, work on music, maybe do some laundry, pick up the kids from school, make sure they do their homework, prepare dinner, feed them, get them to bed, repeat and on weekends I usually basically the same as the weekdays minus the school part.

My favorite song at the moment is Blaze Foley “Clay Pigeons” or Taylor Swift “Delicate”. A film I watched lately and really liked was Spaceballs with my 10 year old son. The last series I watched and loved was Pose. I am very inspired by my childrens endless sense of fascination with the world around them. My dream is to raise happy, healthy, kind, and compassionate children. My worst nightmare is my house burning down.

I love djing and hate not having a booking agent currently.

I am addicted to White Castle Impossible Burgers, I just cannot stop picking up all my kids crap they leave on the floor.
I get totally fucked up, when I obsess over things. The next day I need to drink a lot of water and try to straighten my head out.
Local Suicide reminds me of the internet.

Tomorrow I will do the same I did today most likely. Next month will be holiday hell. Christmas and Thanksgiving family is coming. Next year I hope to have a new booking agent. In 10 years I hope to be retired.

If I wasn’t a dj/musician, I would be a working as a pizza delivery guy or something because I have no other skills.
If my life was a Hollywood movie, it would be some sort of Paul Thomas Anderson family catastrophe. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be Darth Vader. If I was a car, I would be a Yugo. If I was an animal, I would be an owl. If I was a drug I would be xanax. If I was an invention, I would be fire. If I was an object, I would be a tree. If I could date myself, I would take myself out on a date to get tacos.
If I could play with anyone it would be my kids. I would like to collaborate with Andy Warhol.
If I had only one wish, it would be to be invisible.
I would never hurt my kids, because you don’t want them to grow up to be serial killers.

My word of advice to the reader would be to be kind to people, help each other out, try not to eat animals if possible.
