The Madrid-bred and Alicante-based producer Mooz has been active in the techno scene since the early 2000s. Over the course of his career, he has signed vinyl and digital releases for several techno record labels, including Pornographic RecordingsNaked Lunch, and Solid Groove Records to name a few. This past year he launched his own label, Hidden Suite Records, which aims to release a new cut every six weeks.

Listen below to Mooz’s most recent single “What If” taken from the new four-track EP Number Ten.

My name is Luis Mestanza but you might know me as Mooz. I was born in Madrid, Spain and grew up in Madrid, Spain. When I was a child my idols were musicians like Kraftwerk, Vince Clarke, Jean-Michel Jarre and sportsmen such as Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors because through the musicians I discovered electronic music and I like tennis and have been playing since I was a kid. When I was at school, I started to focus in different things. I wasn’t a good student at all. It was then when I realized that my future was dark and decided to start working to get money to buy gear. Since then I never stopped working and I’ve changed my gear a few times. One of my best gigs I played was my last one, which was weird. It was so much fun because I played music that wasn’t supposed/expected to be played and people looked at me with burning eyes :-).
One of the best gigs I have been to was Techno: Jeff Mills in Madrid a long time ago. Not Techno: The Stone Roses reunion gig in Manchester in 2012. I loved Jeff Mills’ music and The Stone Roses’ music and atmosphere.

Now I live in Alicante, Spain with myself, but I love dogs. In my house you can find records, synths, drum-boxes, decks, and tennis rackets. My refrigerator is usually full with orange juice, gazpacho, water. I enjoy synths and virtual synths a lot. I can spend hours looking for a special sound to add to a track. Maybe is not in front of the mix, but without that sound the track is not the same. One of my favorite places to visit is Pyrenees at winter, because it’s calm, cold and white. On weekdays I do my routines: work, make music, listen to music, watch a movie in the evening, read before sleep. On weekends I usually do the same as weekdays.

My favorite song at the moment is not a new one, but I love “Somedays” by Tess Parks. A film I watched lately and really liked was Arrival. The last series I watched and loved was Godless. I am very inspired by my mother, probably. My dream is to stay healthy. My worst nightmare is  to loose my mind. I love Paella and hate what the world is becoming. I am addicted to coffee, I just cannot stop collecting sneakers and tennis rackets. I get totally fucked up, when I can’t finish a track. The next day I need to finish the track.

Local Suicide reminds me of a clothing web shop.

Tomorrow I start making new tracks for my record label. Next month new tracks for a few different projects. Next year…who knows? In 10 years I hope to be a better person, stay healthy and to keep doing the things that I like to do.

If I wasn’t a lazy guy, I would be a more hard working guy. If my life was a Hollywood movie, it would be The Martian. I would have the main role, because I would love to travel to Mars. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be Amy Adams. If I was a car, I would be an old, classic, but trusty one. If I was an animal, I would be a Polar bear. If I was a drug I would be not a fan. If I was an invention, I would be a speaker. If I was an object, I would be a lamp. If I could date myself, I would not. If I could play with anyone it would be Joey Beltram. I would like to collaborate with Surgeon, Charlotte de Witte, Jeff Mills, Rebekah, and The Advent. If I had only one wish, it would be to have perfect music studio. I would never have a black mamba, because they are really dangerous.

My word of advice to the reader would be to stay healthy and to be honest.
