LSD FAZE TIME: Ripperton

Switzerland is known for being much about best kept secrets and quality output – a reputation that Ripperton takes on as heritage and adds to 20 years of experimenting under many faces and through many genres.

While swimming upstream, he separates himself from the mainstream with releases on labels which include Connaisseur, Perspective and his own Tamed Musiq imprint. His sets are an expression of the simplicity he reflects so well through his many ventures, keeping his work very personal and releases that never fail to impress.

His new album Sight Seeing has just been released on LA’s trailblazing ESP Institute. A beautiful ambient collection made without any agenda outside of representing the self, not geared toward the dancefloor or a specific environment but simply a bi-product of introspective exploration, Sight Seeing was greatly inspired by expansive landscapes and views from airplane windows (imagine your commute flying over the Alps every weekend), and is described by Ripperton as postcards to himself, messages from his subconscious recorded on tape (both conceptually and literally), melancholy soundtracks to the Mondays that follow weekend journeys.

My name is Ripa but you might know me as Ripa Tony. I was born in Lausanne and grew up in the same place. When I was a child my idol was Jean-Claude Van Damme, because I love his sense of humor. When I was a bit depressed, I started to meditate. It was then that I realised that it was not for me and decided to get depressed again. Since then I feel better.

One of the best gigs I played was at a natural Roman ruins site near Arzier. It was so much fun to organize that free party and we danced all night around a big fire camp. One of the best gigs I have been to was Mr Fingers Live. I loved it because it was the positive house music I come from, full of love and definitely sincere.

Now I live in Lausanne. Sorry. With my family. In my house you can find two kids, some books and a turntable. My refrigerator is usually full with Swiss cheese. I enjoy Swiss wine and pomegranate a lot. I can spend hours watching series. One of my favorite places to visit is Italy, because ‘dolce vita’ and Panna Cotta.

On weekdays I produce at my atelier. On weekends I usually play records or go out in the nature with my kids.

My favorite song at the moment is Johnny Cash – I See A Darkness. A film I watched lately and really liked was “The shape of water” from Guillermo del Toro. The last series I watched and loved was “The leftovers”.

I am very inspired by nature. My dream is to fly on a dream. My worst nightmare is  to get stuck in a hotel room with Donal Gump.

I love running and hate hate.

I am addicted to mind games, I just cannot stop discovering new music.

I get totally fucked up, when I drink much with a lack of sleep. The next day I need to spend some time with the ones I love.

Local Suicide reminds me of INXS.

Tomorrow I will make music all day. Next month I release my new album. Next year we will be in 2019. In 10 years I hope thinking of 2018 as a wonderful year of change for all of us.

If I wasn’t a producer, I would be a cook.

If my life was a Hollywood movie, It could be “City Island”. I would have the main role, because I love Andy Garcia. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be Johnny Depp twenty years ago.

If I was a car, I would be a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. If I was an animal, I would be a Totoro. If I was a drug I would be a strong coffee. If I was an invention, I would be a vaccine. If I was an object, I would be a speaker . If I could date myself, I would be bi-sexual.

If I could play with anyone it would be my kids. I would like to collaborate with Larry Heard.

If I had only one wish, it would be more benevolence in this world.

I would never use violence easily, because it’s the way of the weak.

My word of advice to the reader would be to have more kindness and curiosity. We never get enough of those.
