This guy is a music genius, no doubt about it. Rodion hails from Italy’s capital Rome and is following his country’s tradition in good disco music. He has released singles and remixes on respected labels, such as Gomma, Eskimo, City Slang, Bearfunk, MBdisco, La Belle, Slow Motion and many others. His project Alien Alien together with Hugo Sanchez is stunning, as expected, and their track “Sambaca” became an anthem in the queer party scene. Find out more about him and listen to his tunes!
My name is Edoardo but you might know me as Rodion. I was born in Rome, Italy and grew up in Rome, Italy. When I was a child my idol was Johan Sebastian Bach, and he still quite remains my ultimate hero 30 yrs after my childhood, because music that still works after 300 yrs must be awesome music. When I was 5, I started listening to Bach’s music on my uncle’s massive turntable system. It was then when I realised that I wanted to learn how to play that massive music and be able to compose my own beautiful tunes, that thing of being able to put togheter small notes and dots in order to create a sublime harmony had a seriously big impact on my mind and decided to bother my uncle until the point he had no choice but to teach me some piano basics. Since then I kept on with Bach, piano and music playing and making.
One of the best gigs I have been to was my first Depeche Mode show ever, during the violator tour.. I loved Dave’s presence on stage and the post-kraftwerk ultra sexy mood of the whole thing. I grew up with classical music and I was in need to find something demonstrating to me that modern music could have been equally powerful in terms of emotional impact on me. that show definitely convinced me that electronic music would have been my next step to follow..
Now I live in Rome, Italy with my girlfriend Diana and our fake dog, ice.. In my house you can find a piano, a lot of synthesizers and a fully equipped kitchen and my refrigerator is usually full with fresh stuff we buy everyday from the local market around the corner.. I enjoy twisting knobs on my machines and mixing food in my kitchen quite a lot. I can spend hours on a single synth sound or on the making of a nice italian recipe. One of my favorite places to visit is the ancient appian way, in the suburbs of rome, because the place is still the same since a couple thousand years.
On weekdays I work on my music, sometimes go to the swimming pool, enjoy tea with my grandpa and cook and relax with friends and on weekends I usually travel around djing or playing my music live.
My favorite song at the moment is la burundanga, by my mexican pal alec sander, aka la royale & yesco, mijo, half of chemistry etc etc. that guy suffers from quite a serious personality splitting issue ;). A film I watched lately and really liked was king of comedy, with Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis – quite an old movie which I never had the chance to watch. I love De Niro and Scorsese.. The last series I watched and loved was south park, above everything else ever conceived on screen!
I am very inspired by pioneeristic music and properly made food. My dream is to run a small restaurant on a lonely beach. My worst nightmare is to wear an ultra-heavy sweater in the middle of a sandy desert.
I love classical music and hate hipsters.
I am addicted to everything bad and tempting at the same time, I just cannot stop eating white pizza with mortadella, seriously I have a problem with that once I start.
I get totally fucked up, when I realize that something is not working as I planned it. I m quite a control freak and, as Bukowski wisely stated “It’s not the large things that send a man to the madhouse…No, it’s the continuing series of small tragedies…not the death of his love but the shoelace that snaps with no time left”. I think I m that kind of person.
Local Suicide reminds me of a funky Mexican village party, where people drink, eat and dance themselves to death.
Tomorrow I will work on my music, and feel shitty cause I didn’t do as good as I would have loved to. Next month same as above. Next year same as above. In 10 years I hope it ll keep on like this. It just keeps me alive.
If I was a car, I would be a fiat 131 supermirafiori. If I was an animal, I would be a tortoise. If I was a drug I would be hash. If I was an object, I would be a cigarette. If I could date myself, I would never do that!
If I could play with anyone it would be Giorgio Moroder.
My word of advice to the reader would be to pay good care to the music you listen and to the food you eat.
It is extremely difficult to pick just a few tunes, because we love this guy’s productions and dj sets. So we strongly advise you to dig in his soundcloud, go to his shows and buy his records!
Probably the best Halloween mixtape ever made:
