Sheldon Thompson – except from being an exceptional guy with a unique kindness and an amazing sense of humor – also happens to be one of our favorite djs and producers. Some of the aliases he uses are Pan/tone, Gringo Grinder and Sid Le Rock, under which he djs and releases music on some of the world’s best music labels, including his own imprint Cereal/Killers and Beachcoma, which he co-founded with long time friends, Jake Fairley (aka Fairmont) & Metope.
His music has an epic quality, as if a huge crescendo is gradually building underneath the beat, and this sense of a powerful sweeping movement carries through many of his most recognized tracks. Subtle modulations layered over each other slowly intertwine and combine to reinforce this sense of a massive power being unleashed.
We met him a couple of years ago in Heidelberg, when we were all playing at the same party at Karlstorbahnhof, realized we were neighbors in Berlin and this is how it all begun. We thought you should get to know him too, so we asked him to take our “LSD FAZE TIME” interview.
My name is Sid but you might know me as Sid LeRock. I was born in Sudbury, Canada and grew up Toronto. When I was a child my idol was Mr Dress up, because he had a plastic friend named Casey. When I was 18, I started making music with friends from school. It was then when I realised that music was all i wanted to do and decided to pursue it full time. Since then music has been my way of life.
In my house you can find many things and my refrigerator is usually full with emptiness. I enjoy beer and tacos a lot. I can spend hours having very little attention span. One of my favorite places to visit is Croatia, because of the beautiful scenery.
On weekdays I work with pleasure and on weekends I usually work for pleasure.
My favorite song at the moment is Last Dance by Fairmont. A film I watched lately and really liked was Argo. The last series I watched and loved was The Walkers.
I am very inspired by friends, girlfriend. My dream is to keep dreaming. My worst nightmare is losing touch of my dream.
I love to love and hate to hate.
I am addicted to addictions, I just cannot stop adding addictions.
Local Suicide reminds me of kool aid that I shouldn’t drink.
Tomorrow I think about next week. Next month I think about next year. Next year I think about my German visa application. In 10 years I hope I remember the past 10 years.
If I wasn’t a sex symbol, I would be a plastic surgeon.
If my life was a Hollywood movie, I wouldn’t have it based in Hollywood. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be like a local suicide.
If I was a car, I would be a tow truck. If I was an animal, I would be a lovable one. If I was a drug I would be consumed. If I was an invention, I would be a pending patent. If I was an object, I would be a rock. If I could date myself, I ‘d save money and stay at home.
Sid Le Rock’s single “Foreign Love” out soon on My Favorite Robot Records, a taster for his forthcoming album:
This happens to be one of the funniest and coolest videos I’ve watched in a long time. And the track rocks too. It’s a Tropopause!
