Holger Zilske and Kai Preussner met at university and decided to start making music together. They named their project Smash TV – supposingly after the 1990 arcade game – and started making banging tunes that they released on renowned labels such as Get Physical, My Favorite Robot, Culprit LA, Katermukke, Hive Audio, BPitch and many more. Their latest release is no exception, Little Helpers 305 includes 5 original bangers, that you can get over here and listen to below. But first find out more about those two in our fill in the gaps session.
Our names are Holger Zilske and Kai Preussner but you might know us as Smash TV.
We were born in Berlin and grew up in Berlin.
In our childhood our idols were Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill, because they keep it real..
We met in University at the coffeemaker and figured out quickly we should work together.. In 2010 we decided to form a bond stronger than marriage and Kai joined Smash TV to fight for a better world.. Since then we keep writing, producing, playing and smashing together.
One of the best gigs we played was Piknic Elektronic Montreal. It was so much fun to play at daytime on a Sunday for 5000 crazy half-naked people and get outta there alive.. One of the best gigs we have been to was Kraftwerk. We loved being transported back to our childhood when these tunes were played at our parents home parties.
Now we live in Berlin with families and pets. We meet every other day and eat Döner kebab with hot sauce and no red cabbage (Kai).
We sometimes argue when we share a hotelroom about snoring issues, but then we just pass out.
We enjoy snoring for ourselves and letting the other one sleep a lot. We can spend hours making various animal noises while sleeping. One of our favorite places to visit is Beirut, Lebanon, because we have great friends there and the city has a unique atmosphere.
On weekdays we write, produce and do office work and on weekends we usually go on tour.
Our favorite songs at the moment are Floorplan – Ritual and Fabrice Lig – Dark Commodore. Some films we watched lately and liked was “In the mouth of madness” and “Taxi Teheran”. The last series we watched and loved was Mind Hunter.
We are very inspired by every aspect of Disco. Our dream is to keep the dream alive. Our worst nightmare is no bass on stage. We love Guacamole and hate warm soft drinks.
We are addicted to airport fast food, we just cannot stop stuffing ourselves with this crap.. We get totally fucked up, when we watch the news.
Local Suicide reminds us of the Beatles.
Tomorrow we walk to the studio. Next month we plan to go on disco Rollerskates.
Next year we will probably be going there with a Tesla Bus with Bullet proof glass and no driver.
In 10 years we hope to go on a magic carpet.
If we weren’t musicians, we would be Lifeguards in Malibu. If our lives were a Hollywood movie, Ice Cube and Ice Cube would have the main roles, because we can’t think of anybody else being able to carry the emotional depth of this romantic comedy. If we were a car, we would be a Volkswagen Scirocco II. If we were an animal, we would be a Bigfoot. If we were a drug, we would be OG Silver Haze.
If we were an invention, we would be an in-shower microwave.
If we were an object, we would be a Pentagram.
If we could date ourselves, we wouldn’t kiss on the first date.
If we could play with anyone it would be Elvis. We would like to collaborate with Chaka Khan.
If we had only one wish, it would be a lifetime supply Crunchy nuts.
We would never eat any other cereal, because thats a sign of respect.
Our word of advice to the reader would be to just flow with the go.
