The UK producer & DJ Andrew Meecham better known as The Emperor Machine recently founded his own label Vertical Tones to put out his own previously unreleased works along with experimental electronic sfx library music on vinyl & digital formats.

The label’s latest output is the brilliant 4-track Voltage Controled EP which is available now on 12″ as well (order here)! Andrew(‘s wife) kindly took the time to answer our LSD FAZE TIME feature which you can check out below.

My name is Andrew Meecham but you might know me as Andy Meecham, The Emperor Machine, one half of Bizarre Inc, Sir Drew, one half of Chicken Lips, one half of Future Four. I was born in Staffordshire in 1968 in a maternity ward called Burton House to a fabulous woman known as Tilly and grew up in a small council house in a small town. When I was a child my idol was my Dad, because of his obsession with technology and the fact that we had constant stream of really high end audio equipment, including CB radios, and hi fi equipment coming through the house. We were first in the community to have a colour tv.  My dad worked all hours as a lorry driver to provide for us and that came first, but what was left over went on technology – all through is contacts with the local electrical shop. He still has all of the top of line laptops and TVs.  He has recently given me is Tandberg speakers that were a formative part of my childhood. The man remains a legend. When I was 8 years old, I started messing around with tape recorders and a Bush record player to create my own radio shows. It was then when I realised that this is what I wanted to do and decided to be a musician and DJ. Since then I have been a musician and DJ.

One of my best gigs I played was Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire(in recent times). I have been gigging for over 20 years and best gigs tend to be the last best gig that I remember. It was so much fun because the crowd was intimate, slightly crazy, welcoming and just into the music and there for the music and the place itself had a really cool vibe.

One of the best gigs I have been to was Depeche Mode in 1984 in Wolverhampton. I loved the fact that I managed to get right to the front.

Now I live in the same small town but in a slightly bigger house with my wife, two children, one dog, two guinea pigs and one rabbit and a fish that has been granted the gift of immortality. In my house you can find lots of records, lots of books, lots of robots, lots of lego, lots of tools, lots of toys and a glorious 1975 VW Camper Van (but that is in the garage not the house) and my refrigerator is usually full with milk and cheese. I enjoy walking the dog at least three times a day and camping in our van a lot. I can spend hours playing vinyl. One of my favorite places to visit is San Francisco, because of the amount of record shops I foundOn weekdays I do the school run, walk the dog, go to the studio, walk the dog, , do the school run, walk the dog, go to the studio, go to bed and on weekends I usually spend time with my family if I am not gigging and I also do a local radio show when they want me.
My favorite song at the moment is The Ex Tras – Haven’t Been Funked Enough – 1983.
A film I watched lately and really liked was Star Wars – Rogue One.
The last series I watched and loved was Peaky Blinders.
I am very inspired by The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Can and David Bowie. My dream is to completely restore our camper van to A1 condition and install a Porsche engine in it! My worst nightmare is anchovies.
I love my wife and children and hate no-one. I am too busy.
I am addicted to vaping. I just cannot stop vaping.
I get totally fucked up when I cannot vape. The next day I need to vape.
Local Suicide reminds me of melted chocolate with a pint of Guinness.

Tomorrow I need to fix the windscreen on my car. Next month I am writing a new Emperor Machine album and rehearsing for upcoming live shows. Next year I will be a millionaire. In 10 years I hope to be alive.

If I wasn’t a musician, I would be an electrician, probably..
If my life was a Hollywood movie, Michael Kitchen would have the main role, because he is convincing and sincere. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be my wife because I am dictating this to her because she has an amazing typing speed (and because she is really nice).
If I was a car, I would be a Ford Granada. If I was an animal, I would be a Dog because I like walking three times a day. If I was a drug I would be Coffee. If I was an invention, I would be a perpetual motion machine. If I was an object, I would be a immovable. If I could date myself, I would not cheat on myself.
If I could play with anyone it would be my two daughters. I would like to collaborate with Martin Gore.
If I had only one wish, it would be to have more wishes.
I would never leave my wife and kids, because she is helping me type my responses to these questions.

My word of advice to the reader would be to get up in the morning and do stuff.
