LSD Faze Time: This Soft Machine

This Soft MachineTSM aka This Soft Machine is an upcoming Australian artist currently living in Munich. We totally loved his latest EP “It’s Operational” that features remixes from one of the most interesting Japanese djs and producers Chida, who Tim met when he was living in Tokyo, and renowned Avalon Emerson out on Eskimo Recordings. You can get it here! He took the time to reveal some of his personal secrets and you can find them out below!

PAST

My name is Timothy Stephen Sullivan but you might know me as TSM aka This Soft Machine. I was born in Australia and grew up in Australia. When I was a child my idol was Axl Rose, because when I was 7 years old I got “Use Your Illusion II” on cassette for Xmas. When I was 13 years old, I started my first literal “garage band” with childhood friends. It was then when I realised that no matter how many times we played “Beat On The Brat” it still ruled and decided to learn more Ramones covers. Since then I have been lucky enough to travel the world with music, meet a lot of great people & eat some great food.

One of my best gigs I played was Izmir in Turkey with DARKSIDE. It was so much fun because of the scenery, beach jams during the day into a house music night, great friends and mojitos.

One of the best gigs I have been to was FOR Festival in Croatia.. I loved dancing to Daniel Wang at sunrise.

PRESENT

Now I live in Munich, Germany with my fiancé. In my house you can find a large collection of books by Beat Generation Authors… William W. Burroughs, Charles Bukowski, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Hunter S Thompson… and my refrigerator is usually full with Kinderschokolade. I enjoy reading and cooking at home with my fiancé a lot. I can spend hours record shopping when traveling. One of my favorite places to visit is Tokyo, because I lived there for almost 7 years and I have amazing friends and memories there.

On weekdays I am a daycare teacher and on weekends I usually relax & cook.
My favorite song at the moment is Methusalem – Zombie. A film I watched lately and really liked was Where To Invade Next by Michael Moore. The last series I watched and loved was Bloodline.

I am very inspired by books & friends. My dream is to see us all get along. My worst nightmare is snakes. I love Anna and hate is a strong word.
I am addicted to coffee, I just cannot stop visiting my favourite punk records from when I was a kid.

I get totally fucked up, when I hear uneducated and misinformed people. The next day I need to surround myself with good vibez.

Local Suicide reminds me of a music website that actually writes about music!

FUTURE

Tomorrow I will be working at a daycare teacher during the day and djing at Die Registratur at night. Next month I will be enjoying summer. Next year I hope to have my debut LP released. In 10 years I hope to be dancing to Mr. Flagio – Take A Chance with my kid/s.

HYPOTHESES

If I wasn’t a daycare teacher, I would be a musician.

If my life was a Hollywood movie,  it would be Drugstore Cowboy & Matt Dillon would have the main role, because he did a pretty good job in the first place. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be my fiancé.

If I was a car, I would be a Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Touring. If I was an animal, I would be a squirrel. If I was a drug I would be LSD. If I was an invention, I would be a coffee grinder. If I was an object, I would be a hopefully something useful and versatile. If I could date myself, I would have a lot to learn.

If I could play with anyone it would be Andrew Weatherall. I would like to collaborate with Tom Moulton.

If I had only one wish, it would be not to work and have a countryside studio.

I would never go a day without coffee, because it’s not good for anyone.

ADVICE

My word of advice to the reader would be to be kind to each other.
