London based club night and newly formed label Snap Crackle & Pop‘s third releases comes in the form of a dark take on new wave influenced techno from Berlin based New Yorker Curses.

Having cut his teeth in the US with his former Drop The Lime alias, Curses aka Luca Venezia transferred over to Berlin in 2014, lowering his BPM in the process and reorienting his musical output towards his first love: post-punk.

With his Snap, Crackle & Pop debut now out (backed by superb remixes from Inga Mauer and The Golden Filter) and an album looming on the horizon, the time was ripe to invite Curses to take a seat in the LSD Faze Time wonderchair.

My name is Luca Venezia but you might know me as Curses. I was born in New York City and grew up in downtown Manhattan. When I was a child my idol was Axl Rose, because Guns N’ Roses were my favorite band. When I was 7 years old, I started playing guitar after seeing the movie La Bamba. It was then that I realised that I wanted to be a musician and decided to record love songs to tape and give them to girls I had crushes on in school. Since then I never looked back.

One of the best gigs I played was an open air party recently in an industrial pizza parking lot in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was so much fun and even though it started raining, people never left the dance floor and danced in the rain like some 80’s New Wave video.

One of the best gigs I have been to was Ennio Morricone at the O2 arena a couple years ago. I loved all of his film scores, and to see it live was unreal.

Now I live in Berlin with my bad ass girlfriend. In my house you can find obscure 80’s vintage magazines and my refrigerator is usually full with delicious Italian snacks. I enjoy cooking and eating a lot. I can spend hours with friends over a nice dinner and drinks. One of my favorite places to visit is Marseille, because of the La Dame Noir crew, and the seafood is priceless.

On weekdays I work on remixes, new music, and designing artwork and on weekends I usually play weird and wavy music in loud clubs.

My favorite song at the moment is Trouble – Snake Eyes.

A film I watched lately and really liked was An Honest Liar. The last series I watched and loved was The Jinx.

I am very inspired by the alluring nostalgic and creative force of past decades. My dream is to eventually score films. My worst nightmare is EDM.

I love leather and hate EDM.

I am addicted to hot sauce, I just cannot stop drinking coffee.

I get totally fucked up, when I eat walnuts. I’m allergic.. The next day I need to wake up in a hospital…

Local Suicide reminds me of me.

Tomorrow I hope it doesn’t rain. Next month I head back to NYC for Halloween. Next year my album as Curses drops. In 10 years I hope to finally rest my weary legs and be drinking a piña colada in the sun.

If I wasn’t a human, I would be a blue tongued skink.

If my life was a Hollywood movie, Matthew Lillard would have the main role, because have you ever seen Hackers?. If I could have sex with anyone, it would be me.

If I was a car, I would be a Ford Fairline. If I was a drug I would be addictive. If I was an invention, I would be a fidget spinner. If I was an object, I would be a slab of cold marble on a hot summer’s day. If I could date myself, I would hate myself.

If I could play with anyone it would be Tangerine Dream. I would like to collaborate with Nina Hagen.

If I had only one wish, it would be Telekinesis.

I would never say never, because you never know.

My word of advice to the reader would be, as Mark Twain once said, “Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company”.
