I still remember when I discovered them back in the 90’s. I first watched “Wail” directed by Weird Al Yankovic and loved the band immediately.
Judah Bauer, Russel Simins and Jon Spencer met in 1991 in New York and formed the band, that would make history in the music universe and would become a big influence for many other garage blues bands to follow. Dirty, sexy, explosive rock n’ roll infused with rap, blues, rhythm and blues, garage and rockabilly, a punk bad ass attitude, horror film elements and there you have The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion sensation. In September 2012 they released their seventh studio album, “Meat And Bone” that was praised by the critics.
They are on tour at the moment and playing in Berlin too, at Festsaal Kreuzberg this Sunday December 9th. The Mentalettes, the “Sixties Girl Group meets Garage Beat Boy Band” multi cultural, but based in Berlin band are supporting.
We are giving away 1 x2 guest lists. All you have to do is write a comment underneath the post with your favorite Jon Spencer Blues Explosion track and you might be the lucky one!
