Don’t mess with Amatus heart. This New York synth pop-meets-r&b artist collaborated with the experimental producer Jneiro Jarel for an exceptional track, Messin.
Amatus spent the earlier years of her life in the south side of Chicago across the street from the Cabrini Green Projects in her father’s mosque. Being the daughter of a sharecropper and Imam, she now is scoring a documentary for Al-Jazeera America “Daisy and Max.” She also just wrapped the sound-design and score for the debut of Dominique Morisseau’s play “SUNSET BABY” at Philip Seymour Hoffman’s award-winning, Labyrinth Theater Company with artistic director Mimi O’Donnell.
Even though this girl has got serious direction “Broken Compass” is the title of Amatus’ debut EP, which brings together indie pop, electronic beats, bass, hip hop and live instrumentation filled with afro flair.
