The San Franciscan duo of the moon, as their name disclose, is Wooden Shijps guitarist Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada. After their debut album ‘Mazes‘ (2010), they have moved on forward to recording “Circles” which was the result of their isolation in the Blue River, a Colorado mountain town during last winter. What they recorded in this town of just 685 inhabitants is a mix of hazy, folky but effusive psychedelia full of organ invasions. Just like its predecessor, the album was mixed and tweaked at Kaiku Studios in Berlin and released on Sacred Bones/Souterrain Transmissions.
What Ripley Johnson says about the video of their first far-out single is that “The original idea was to do a straight aerobics instructional video in the classic ’80s style: humorous but also useful, something you could really work out to. We realized it would be more entertaining and practical to do something narrative, and Sanae came up with the idea of a young couple finding an aerobics-class flyer on the street. The story ideas rolled forth from there, and by the time we cast King Khan as the instructor, we had a full-tilt aerobics cult story, with mystic logo, abduction, crazy costumes, the whole nine yards.”
Enjoy the most out of it, following the movements and the psyched rhythm!
