End of October the loose Jazz collective from the streets of New York, Onyx Collective, had shown its first sign of life: their first EP (and soon the second) on Big Dada, ‘The Lower East Suite Pt. 1‘, was announced and with it their song ‘Fruit Stand‘ was released. Now the video was finally released and it is – as the music of Onyx Collective – complex, ambitious, demanding and yet completely different in comparison to most other bands in the current Jazz revival.
On a warm summer day in Chinatown, I ran into Zalmai Levat, who just returned from his trip to Japan. He showed me the footage he took, and told me about his experience of living on a monastery for 3 weeks. I immediately thought, ‘These are perfect visuals for Fruit Stand!‘ That’s how this video came together. The goal is to continue to support and add to the creative community and collaborate with as many artists that are around us. Isaiah Barr (band member)
