Canadian-born Rachel Zeffira sounds just heavenly. Her opera singing background is no wonder since this crystal clear voice of hers can give you spine-tingling goose bumps. She is capable not only of signing and composing, but also of playing the piano, synthesizers, vibraphone, cathedral organ, violin, viola, oboe and English horn! She is one half of the duo Cat’s Eyes (alongside Faris Badwan from the Horrors).
Currently based in London, England, she released her first debut album, The Deserters, last year, featuring members of Toy and S.C.U.M, through RAF Records in Europe and through Paper Bag Records in North America.
Here we have this wonderful live video of Zeffira covering the Beatles‘ Because. She was asked by Michael Cragg from the Guardian why she chose that cover and her answer was “because has a lot of atmosphere for such a short song and I thought the vibraphone would add to the eeriness. I also really liked the original harmonies and thought they would be perfect for my backing singers.”
