Review: Ivanov – New Sky E.P

‘New Sky’ is the first release from Wavereform records bringing you the debut single from Ivanov, a fresh young producer hailing from Russia. There is chilled summer vibes all over this, a quite long half time intro with some relaxing jazzy keys (that on occasions remind me of Riders on The Storm), guitar chords, some real ambient pads. Eventually a house beat slowly emerges underneath it all as all the elements progress together towards a subtle climax and then fade back into the distance as the keys go have a little bit of a solo. This will be a nice opener for the dj”s playing the sunset slots at the more relaxed summer festivals, I envisage Croatian rocky beaches and cocktails.

First remix is by Soulphiction, who makes it a bit more dj friendly bringing the beat into the foreground right at the start and adds a subtly acidic baseline. Klartraum takes the whole thing a bit deeper slowing it down just a tad and adding synth stabs, percussive elements and a vocal sample, again quite progressive. The bonus track is a second remix by Soulphiction where he uses some slightly more gritty drums, plays around looping the keys whilst the pad phrases up and down with the bass, then in the half way through and he brings the filter up on that acid bass.

Solid first release from both Ivanov and Wavereform, I love the different directions the remixes have taken it, there should be an option for most house dj’s out there!
