Review: Prosumer – Fabric79

Being summoned upon for a Fabric mix CD will always be a milestone in a DJs career and while Prosumer is in no lack of achievements to boast about, it’s nice to see his name associated to the esteemed franchise, and over the course of 70 minutes we witness the former Panorama Bar resident doing what he does best: deliver a set of great house music.

Prosumer kicks things off in the early 90s with tracks by George Acosta and Chez Damier, whose Untitled B2 you can imagine doing considerable amounts of damage in a doe-eyed Panorama, before going house-cliché with Farley Jackmaster Funk’s I believe and operating a complete mood u-turn with The Traxxmen’s wonderfully weird Emergency, and its ambulance siren run through a distortion which doesn’t seem to know if it should be clipping or enjoying the moment. Prosumer also finds time to showcase the work of his recently founded label Potion, first by dropping partner in crime Murat Tepeli‘s acid and Chicago leaning P.S.A and fairly new Danish duo Wilma‘s Fabio.

Despite not having a crowd to vibe off (“the ducks outside my window were a hard crowd to read”), the mix sees the Saarbrücken native show-off a tirelessly-crafted talent for swift energy changes and era-hopping, and the man may be digging deep into the 90s or dropping soon to be hot cuts, he always manages to maintain a timeless vibe, even allowing himself the luxury of dropping a last track, funky-feminist She’s Got Her E.R.A by Tommy McGee & E.R.A, just after you thought it was all over.

Fabric 79 is out now and Berliners will be able to catch Prosumer with Murat Tepeli for a Louche Valentine at Chalet on 14th February or alongside Jan Kedves at Südblock on January 31st.
