Killekill are bringing their Killekill House Trax sublabel back to life with two servings of Blake Baxter. Acid Life is the first release to drop on the much loved Berlin crew’s sublabel since Kid Simmons’ 2015 The Archives #1 EP.
Dubbed The Prince Of Techno by his peers, Blake Baxter is part of the first wave of Detroit techno artists, alongside the likes of Jeff Mills and Kevin Saunderson, and has been active since the mid 80s. His tracks When A Thought Becomes U and Our Luv have long reached classic status.
Timeless comes to mind when describing Acid Life, Baxter’s first release on Killekill. On the A side, Detroit Fades Into Acid, pairs a tense chord progression with bubbling acid and ominous vocals. It’s banging and effective but it’s the flip that steals the show. The squelchy lead of The World Is Acid reaches gangster level swagger while the dramatic string stabs prove to be perfect accompaniment to the rhythmic start and stops.
Rendez-vous in ten years to see if this is one for the history books. In the meantime, we recommend you bag the record HERE.
