With that strong voice and lyrics that are mightier that swords or any other weapons, M.I.A. has always been like the spokesperson of those whose voices don’t always reach the surface of the media. She’s the proof that music goes beyond the dimension of aesthetics, having also social value.
Considering everything that’s been happening in the past few months, from the Syrian civil war, the refugees issue or the terrorist attacks, M.I.A.’s recent tweet is just spot on:

However, that was just her teasing us, since she recently shared “Borders” from her forthcoming album and film project “Matahdatah”, which also includes the visually stunning Broader Than a Border video released earlier this year. With no official release date for the album, I guess we should just enjoy this powerful track that couldn’t be more actual, while still maintaining that distinctive M.I.A. oriental rhythm and catchy refrain.
“Borders, what’s up with that? Politics, what’s up with that? Police shots, what’s up with that? Identities, what’s up with that?”
